  • Joanna May - May 14 Devo

This is an almost 2-hour recording of a devotional worship session at the International House of Prayer on May 14, 2011 at 2PM. Mostly spontaneous worship songs, and thoughts, I sing about the Lord freeing us from the opinions and judgments of man - how even the prophet Samuel evaluated David initially by his outward appearance, but how the Lord looks at the heart. There is a mini-ministry time for people listening to relinquish pain from leaders not recognizing their calling or destiny, and to again be anointed with the oil of God, and a destiny that no man can take away.

I really enjoyed this set, and the Lord spoke to me personally through it quite a bit. I hope you enjoy it.

  • Misty Edwards - Devotional Set 2002

    in prayer room

I'm getting all nostalgic today - this is a devotional session from 2002, back in the small trailer, before Misty had a full band and click tracks came into the prayer room. The sound quality is rather poor, but when I listen to it and remember those 10 pm sets in the trailer on Friday nights, when everyone who sat in the prayer room leaned forward intently, eyes closed, in dialogue with the Lord. Where there wasn't room to bring your laptop or a backpack full of commentaries, and the air freshener sounded like the "psst" of an angel.  Where there was complimentary coffee brewing in the lounge outside the prayer room, and everyone at 6 am had their little styrafoam cup full.  Where you sat on the front row, and looked the worship leader square in the eyes, and random homeless people or traveling vagabonds slept along the walls at all hours.  Where everyone prayed, and sang, and stood and swayed and paced.  There were no cameras, sometimes there wasn't even a sound man, and it was hot, and it smelled, and it was so authentic.  It's hard knowing that prayer room will never exist in that form again.  But when I listen to sets like this, I remember the simplicity of my own devotion (along with some immaturity, and being a bit out of tune).  But it makes me happy, and it makes me miss those days, and look for ways to make my own current expression less "hip" and more real. To simplify all this "diversity" down to the "one necessary thing" once again.

  • Joanna Reyburn - Long-Play Devo

    in Christology, Devo, IHOP, Theology

This is this longest prayer room chunk I've ever posted online, but people have been asking for long-play devotionals for their soaking prayer times. This is an hour and 14 minutes of an IHOP–KC Devo mostly spontaneous singing around the Divinity of Jesus.

I have been worship leading for Stephen Venable's Christology I and Biblical doctrine classes at the International House of Prayer University for a couple semesters now, and the more I study about Jesus - His Divinity and His humanity as revealed in the Scriptures, the more in love I become with Him. I've been thinking about how everything changes if Jesus is Yahweh, the LORD, as He said, "Before Abraham was, I AM."

The implications for what we believe, and the way we live are huge! At the end of the day, the question is not about an expression of faith, a denomination or opinion, it all comes back to Jesus and "Who do you say that I am?" All the end of the age controversy is over the person of Jesus. Every cult centers upon a distortion of Jesus' Divinity. In the face of persecution, we will either profess Him as just a teacher, a prophet and a wise man, or we will hold fast to who He truly is, the LORD, the King of glory. Just thinking about it again gives me goosebumps. In this set, I went on a little singing journey of those implications of the Divinity of Jesus from His supremacy in all things to being persecuted for His Name's sake - the Name of Yahweh.

"You're more than a teacher, more than a prophet, more than a man, the I AM that I AM..."

  • Joanna Reyburn - What Do You Feel About Me?

    in solo devo

My sheep will hear my voice. You will know me.
Be of good cheer, my eyes are on you. Be of good cheer, my heart is for you.
I've seen your weakness and I know your pain
I've seen your journey, every step of the way
Just know that I am with you You I will not forsake

You make me glad, right where you're at I'm rejoicing over you.
When all you can see if your weakness
When all you can feel if your pain
When all you know is your struggles
but you say yes to me anyway,
    You make me glad.

He is simply so gracious to meet us where we are, and let us know that we don't have to stay there. He will open to us a door of hope in the wilderness. The whole secret of David, his Isaiah 22:22 key was an unwavering confidence in God's heart for him. Despite seasons of victory and failure, David knew that who He was before the Lord was not contingent upon those circumstances. He saw through the veil to a day when we would be hidden in Christ.

Update: August 1, 2012 - Jacob has recorded this song and it's available on iTunes, click on the YouTube Video below for more.

Jacob Hanly has written this incredible song, inspired by the life of the Apostle Peter and written at a really hard time, when like Peter, he felt disqualified. I too feel like that, a lot, and maybe that's why I love this song so much. It's good to tell the Lord you still love Him even when you feel like you've blown it. That you love Him and still want Him.

  • Joanna Reyburn - Sound of Rain

in autumn katz, lou engle, revival, sound of rain, thecall

Many people ask about the song "Sound of Rain" that was sung at the TheCall DC (by Fernando Alverez in Spanish and English) and can be heard in TheCall's promo video for both the DC Call and TheCall California. The song is written and originally recorded by my friend, Autumn Katz. Chord charts can be downloaded from her website http://www.danielandautumn.com. If you've been blessed by this song, I encourage you to email Autumn and let her know. (Her email is on the website). "I Can Hear the Sound of Rain coming to America again." This is a recording of me from a set I let in the prayer room. I was leading in the mornings, and Lou Engle would regularly be praying in the prayer room while I was leading quite often. This song embodies much of the heart of TheCall and so I would pull it out spontaneously when I'd see Lou.
